2026 National Veterans Wheelchair Games: New England Coasters Shine in Detroit
The New England Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America was proud to send more than a dozen Chapter members, along with Chapter staff, VA staff, coaches, nurses, and dedicated volunteers, to the 45th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Detroit, Michigan. Co-presented annually by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games are the world’s largest adaptive sports and rehabilitation event exclusively for military Veterans who use wheelchairs for athletic competition.
Throughout the week, our athletes demonstrated incredible determination, sportsmanship, and perseverance while competing against Veterans from across the country in a wide variety of adaptive sports. Whether competing for medals or participating for the first time, every member of the New England Coasters represented our Chapter with pride and embodied the spirit of resilience that defines our Veteran community. We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes and congratulate everyone on their outstanding performances. Their accomplishments are reflected in this issue’s medal count, but their success extends far beyond the podium. The friendships formed, personal goals achieved, and confidence gained throughout the week are just as meaningful as any medal earned.
Events like the National Veterans Wheelchair Games are about much more than competition. They showcase the life-changing impact of adaptive sports by promoting health, independence, rehabilitation, and camaraderie among Veterans. Every year, participants return home stronger, more confident, and inspired to continue challenging themselves both on and off the playing field. Our sincere thanks go to the outstanding VA staff, volunteers, coaches, caregivers, and supporters whose countless hours of planning and encouragement made this experience possible. Their commitment ensures that our athletes can focus on competing, reconnecting with fellow Veterans, and enjoying an unforgettable week. The New England Chapter dedicates significant funds to support the Games each year as we deeply value this experience for our members.

The 2027 National Veterans Wheelchair Games will be held in Orlando, Florida, and we hope to have an even larger New England team representing our Chapter. We look forward to seeing both returning and first-time athletes there as we continue to demonstrate the strength, determination, and resilience of our Veterans.
