Similar to the Italian game of Bocce, Boccia is a Paralympic sport practiced competitively since 1984, most frequently by individuals with spinal cord injuries or neurological disorders requiring a wheelchair. For a long time, Boccia was known as a leisure activity until it was introduced as a competitive sport in the 1984 Paralympic Games in New York. At the London 2012 Games, 104 athletes competed in seven medal events.

New England PVA welcomes veterans with all types and levels of injuries to our Boccia clinics; able-bodied veterans can participate by using a wheelchair to compete.
